Spain Digital Nomad Visa Eligibility Checker & Document Checklist 2026

Free tool: answer 8 quick questions to find out, in about 2 minutes, whether you meet the main requirements for Spain’s digital nomad visa (international telework) in 2026. Then use the document checklist below to prepare your application. If you want to understand what each requirement means legally, read our Spain digital nomad visa requirements guide.

Check if you qualify

Answer yes or no to each question. You will see your result, and what to do next, at the end.

  1. Do you work remotely for a company, or for clients, based outside Spain?

The permit is for people who work only through digital means for foreign companies or clients. Freelancers may also have Spanish clients, as long as that work is no more than 20% of their total activity.

If no: the digital nomad visa is not the right route. Other options may fit you better, such as the non-lucrative visa or a work permit.

  2. Have you worked with that employer or those clients for at least the last 3 months?

You must prove a working relationship of at least 3 months before applying, with contracts, payslips or invoices.

If no: wait until the relationship reaches 3 months before you apply.

  3. Has the company you work for (or your main client) been operating for at least 1 year?

The company must have real and continuous activity for at least 1 year, proved with its registration documents.

If no: the application is likely to be refused. Ask a lawyer whether another client or route can meet this requirement.

  4. Do you have a university degree or professional qualification, or at least 3 years of experience in your field?

A degree, postgraduate, vocational or business-school qualification is accepted. Without one, you need to prove at least 3 years of professional experience.

If no: you do not meet the qualification requirement yet. Collect employer certificates or contracts if your experience is close to 3 years.

  5. Is your income at least the minimum for your household (see the income table below)?

In 2026 Spanish consulates ask for at least €2,442 a month for the applicant, plus €916 for the first family member and €305 for each additional one.

If no: your application would probably be refused for insufficient income. A lawyer can check whether other income or savings can be taken into account in your case.

  6. Do you have, or can you get, health insurance valid in Spain?

Public health cover or a private policy with an insurer authorised to operate in Spain, valid for the whole period you apply for.

If no: arrange the insurance before applying. It is a mandatory requirement.

  7. Do you have a clean criminal record in the countries where you have lived in the last 2 years?

You need criminal-record certificates from those countries and a sworn declaration covering the last 5 years.

If no: a criminal record can lead to refusal. Speak to a lawyer before applying.

  8. Are you 18 or over and, if you are already in Spain, staying there legally?

You can apply from your country through the Spanish consulate, or from Spain if your stay there is legal (for example, as a visitor within the allowed time).

If no: you cannot apply for this permit from an irregular situation. Get legal advice on your options.
